Riflessioni Fotomorfiche
Antonio Schiavano Photographic Exhibition

Galleria Art Studio San Lorenzo, Milan | May 29 – June 19, 2025
The creative path originates from a clear distancing of the artist from his commercial photographic production, which he perceived as an expression of an artificial, polished, and truthless esthetic. From this fracture emerges a new research, where the image undergoes a process of profound transformation, which Antonio Schiavano defines as Photomorphia: The photographs, altered with oils, paints, solvents, and abrasive materials, lose their original patina to become unique material works. Every mark imprinted on the surface, scratches, carvings, abrasions, is a gesture of rebellion against conformity, but also a revealing act, a wound that unveils instead of destroying.
In the project “The Beauty and the Bane,” beauty is deconstructed, confronted, and questioned. The work becomes a critical tool, capable of exposing the cult of perfection and bringing to light the authenticity lost in an era dominated by increasingly uniform and dehumanizing esthetic standards.
Dysmorphia, on the other hand, delves into the most intimate and unstable territories of self-perception. The figures, ethereal and sometimes surreal, seem to dissolve into compositions that evoke the fragility of identity and the constant tension between who we are and who we believe we should be. Body dysmorphia thus becomes a universal symbol of an inner condition: the struggle to recognize oneself, the subtle pain of inadequacy, the desire to escape an imposed form.
Schiavano’s works don’t just ask to be observed, but to be experienced, like sensitive surfaces that hold invisible stories. In this visual silence, made of shadows, matter, and imperfection, the artist invites us to look beyond the image: perhaps searching for a new truth.

A visual investigation that goes beyond looks and gives flaws purpose. Each mark turns into a revelation, and each manual intervention is a crucial act that prevents reality from being fabricated. The end product is a visceral statement that points out the truth of shapes and questions enforced models.
An exploration of self-image instability, as restless shapes vacillate between desire and appearance. The pieces depict a complex, delicate, and intensely human emotional landscape as they examine the impact of outside judgments on identity development.
